In answer to customer question about Birkenstock odour

I used to have this ongoing issue with my boat shoes. After trying many things, I ...
  1. I fitted a thin charcoal insole under the existing insole
  2. sprayed the shoes inside and out and under the insoles and on top of the insoles with a knarly shoe deo that is no longer sold.
  3. started wearing silly looking short socks
Not sure how you use this with Birks, but I'd start with trying to kill off lots of the bacteria and then keep its re growth to a minimum
  1. wash feet once or twice a day
  2. sand all the Birk suede insoles with 120 grit, might need to glue sandpaper to end of stick of wood
  3. consider shampooing with something like this here
  4. let some sun get inside them
Something like this here might help

Think about how you currently store them and work out if you can do better.
  1. airflow - I store mine outside the door to walk in wardrobe that has a window that's always ajar. So they have some airflow
  2. dryness - bacteria that make the smell need moisture
  3. consider storing them toes up, maybe against the wall, damp air will not sit in them
For a short easy win spraying them with this will help here it is water, alcohol and fragrance. Best used as well as all the above rather than alone.
And if you are allowed you could try socks at least next winter around the house!

Yes sure, check out the Zip Repairs page. Then either send your boots, bag or shoes to us and we will contact you when they arrive. Or send a photo for a quote if it’s not mentioned.

2-3 days plus courier time. Please let us know if you need them sooner.

  • A confirmation email will be sent to you with our address.
  • Send your items to be repaired to us with the repair number on the address label.
  • At the moment you pay for shipping to us and we charge $9.50 to ship back to you or free return courier if you spend over $100.
