Why "a squeak" can be a tricky fix. A case study
A customer brought in a pair of boots that were driving him crazy with noise. It sounded like a simple fix. But when we got them on the bench for an assessment, we found not one, but four separate squeaks:

The internal metal shank was rubbing against the leather sole layers.

A piece of side leather was chafing as the boot flexed.

The loose insole was rubbing against the lining inside the boot.

The front edge of the rubber heel was catching and squeaking on the ground with every step.
Fixing one of these wouldn't have silenced the boots.
How the $95 Assessment Fee Works
Finding a squeak is detective work. We charge a $95 upfront fee to bench-test your footwear and find the exact source of the noise.
The best part? If you choose to go ahead with the repair, your $95 fee is fully deducted from the final price.
Examples of how this looks:

The Easy Fix: If the repair is simple and costs $95, your assessment fee covers everything. You pay nothing more.

The Normal Fix ($225): We deduct your $95 assessment fee from the total. You only pay the remaining $130 to finish the job.

The Tricky Fix ($285): We deduct your $95 fee, leaving only $190 to pay for the full silence treatment.
Note: If we cannot find what is causing the squeak. The $95 covers our craftsman's time for the professional diagnostic.
